In short a chiropractic adjustment is used to help eliminate
subluxations. But what does that mean?
An adjustment, sometimes called manipulation, is a quick thrust done either by hand or by using an instrument to move a joint in order to remove fixations or improve joint motion and help the bones of the joint have better alignment.
The purpose of the adjustment is to basically help remove stress at a joint and the surrounding nerves to allow nerve impulses to flow freely through the nervous system. Adjustments are usually used on the bones of the spine (vertebrae) but can also be used for other parts of the body as well, such as the arms or legs.
Adjustments of the spine can often accompanied by an audible pop or crack. This is a normal occurrence and is nothing to worry about. It does not always happen and is not necessary for an adjustment to take place. Adjustments are not usually painful and often after an adjustment patients feel more relaxed.
